Staff

The Counseling Center staff consist of our senior staff members, our administrative support, and our trainees.

    Ruperto M. Perez, PhD

    Director

    Dr. Perez is Director of the Georgia Tech Counseling Center and licensed psychologist in Georgia and Florida.  He is also Adjunct Assistant Professor in the School of Psychology.  Dr. Perez received his Ph.D. from the University of Missouri, Columbia and received his Bachelors and Masters degrees from Boston College.  He previously served as Assistant Director/Clinical Assistant Professor in the Counseling Center at the University of Florida and as Counseling Services Coordinator and Training Director in the Counseling and Testing Center at the University of Georgia.  He has authored various publications, presented a number of professional programs, and provided training and consultation in the areas of diversity and inclusion and counseling lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender clients.  He has served as a reviewer for The Counseling Psychologist, Journal of Counseling Psychology and has served on the editorial board for the Journal of Multicultural Counseling and Development. He is an active member in a number of professional organizations and has held leadership positions in the American Psychological Association (APA) and the American College Personnel Association (ACPA).  He currently serves as a member of the APA Committee for the Advancement of Professional Practice, member of the APA Board of Educational Affairs Commission on Accreditation Standing Appeal Panel, and Chair of the Fellowship Committee for the APA Soceity of Counseling Psychology.  He is a Fellow of the American Psychological Association and a Diamond Honoree Award recipient of the American College Personnel Association.  Dr. Perez is co-editor of the Handbook of Counseling and Psychotherapy with Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Clients and co-editor of the Handbook of Sexual Orientation and Gender Diversity in Counseling and Psychotherapy, published by the American Psychological Association.

    Michelle K. Lyn, PhD

    Associate Director for Clinical Services

    Dr. Lyn is a licensed psychologist who received her B.S. from Xavier University of Louisiana, her M.A. from the University of Missouri, and her Ph.D. from the University of Georgia. Dr. Lyn oversees the clinical operation of the center. Dr. Lyn serves as Counseling Center liaison to several university committees, including VOICE (Sexual Violence Prevention and Response Initiative), and GRIN (Graduate Research Information Network). She is also co-author of the The College and University Counseling Manual: Integrating Essential Services Across the Campus, published by Springer Publishing Company. Dr. Lyn's professional interests include supervision, group therapy, multicultural counseling, women's issues, relationship issues, depression and anxiety.

    Dr. Bowers is a licensed psychologist who received his B.A. from Furman University, his M.A. in Clinical Psychology from East Carolina University and his Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from the University of Georgia. As Associate Director, Dr. Bowers oversees the training program for the center. His professional interests include anxiety disorders,family communication patterns and spirituality. He also enjoys working with international students.

    Assistant Director and Practicum Training Coordinator

    Dr. Dalton is a licensed psychologist who received her B.A. in Psychology from the University of Virginia and her M.A. and Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Georgia State University. She serves as the practicum coordinator for the center. She also leads a therapy group formed exclusively for graduate student women at GT. Her special interests include relationship concerns and couples therapy, Asperger's disorder, and health psychology.

    Diversity and Inclusion Coordinator

    Dr. Adelman is a licensed psychologist who received his B.A. from the University of Virginia, his M.A. from the University of Maryland, College Park, and his Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from the University of Texas at Austin .  He serves as the Coordinator for Diversity and Inclusion for the center.  Dr. Adelman’s professional interests include multicultural counseling, LGBTQIA mental health and wellness, identity development, grief & loss, anger management, substance abuse, mens’ issues, and anxiety disorders.

    Suicide Prevention and Crisis Response Coordinator

    Lacy Currie is a licensed psychologist who received a B.A. in Psychology from the University of South Carolina, an M.S. in Psychology from Augusta State University, and a Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from the University of Georgia. Dr. Currie serves as the Coordinator of Suicide Prevention and Crisis Response for the center. Her areas of professional interest include suicide education and prevention, multicultural counseling, grief and loss, substance abuse, spirituality, LGBTQIA mental health and wellness, and relationship issues.

    Recovery Program Coordinator

    Dr. English is a licensed psychologist who received her B.A. in Psychology from Erskine College, her Master of Public Health degree from the University of Georgia, and her Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from Auburn University. She coordinates the Collegiate Recovery Program and the Counseling Center’s Alcohol and Other Drug Treatment Team, and she serves on the Institute’s multidisciplinary Eating Disorders Treatment Team. Dr. English’s areas of professional interest include supporting students in recovery from addictions and eating disorders. Her other areas of clinical interest include women’s issues, trauma, identity development, body image, group therapy and working with student-athletes.

    International Student Services Coordinator

    Dr. Harewood is a licensed psychologist who received a B.Sc. in Economics and Management from the University of the West Indies, an Advanced Diploma in Psychology from Oxford Brookes University, an M.A. in Clinical Psychology from Eastern Illinois University and a Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from the University at Albany, State University of New York. Dr. Harewood is a generalist and provides counseling for a wide variety of concerns. Her professional interests include anxiety problems, insomnia treatment, multicultural counseling, international student concerns, and training and supervision.

    LaRonda Hollis is a Licensed Professional Counselor who serves as the Clinical Case Manager for the Counseling Center. She received her B.S. in Psychology and a B.A. in Women's Studies from the University of Georgia. She also received her M.A. in Community Counseling from Argosy University - Atlanta. LaRonda assists in the coordination of services with Stamps Psychiatry, and mental health providers in the community. Her areas of professional interest include diversity, multicultural issues, and student development.

    Dr. Korey is a licensed psychologist who received her B.A. in Psychology from Georgia State University and her M.A. and Psy.D. in Clinical Psychology from Georgia School of Professional Psychology. Dr. Korey serves as the Coordinator of Assessment Services for the Center. Her areas of clinical and research interests include psychological assessment, individual and group therapy, couples counseling, Autism Spectrum Disorders, ADHD, spirituality, depression, and anxiety.

    Graduate Student Services Coordinator

    Dr. Meares is a licensed psychologist who received her B.S. from Howard University, M.A. from New York University, and Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from the University of Georgia. Dr. Meares serves as the Coordinator of Graduate Student Services and the Coordinator of the "Let's Talk" consultation program. Her professional interests include psychological assessment, multicultural issues, identity development, grief and loss, supervision and training, and sport psychology.

    Dr. Smith is a licensed psychologist who received his B.S. in French and Spanish from the United States Military Academy at West Point and his M.S. and Psy.D. in Clinical Psychology at the Georgia School of Professional Psychology. Dr. Smith is active in the Georgia Psychological Association where he serves on the Continuing Education Committee. His clinical interests include: multicultural and diversity issues, group therapy, gender and masculinity, identity issues, supervision and training, and veteran’s issues.

    Dr. Rowan received her BS in General Studies from Washington State University in Washington state, her BS in Computer Science from Sonoma State University in California, her MA in Applied Psychology from Golden Gate University in San Francisco, and her Psy.D. in Clinical Psychology from the Georgia School of Professional Psychology in Atlanta. She serves as the Postdoctoral Resident in the Counseling Center. Her clinical interests include cultural diversity, LGBTQIA issues, identity development, trauma, non-traditional students, and couples therapy.
